My Surroundings / Locality

We are 3 blocks from the beach! We are located in between 2 city parks, one containing a historic octagonal Victorian structure built as a pavilion for a German dance club in the 1900's and another with a free community gym and skateboard park. We are blocks from historic mansions open to the public for tours, and about 1 mile from downtown, with its historic iron front buildings, shops and restaurants. At the beach, one can rent boats to fish, water ski, or just laze about. You can even sign up for surfing lessons right by our house!
Houston is 1 hour away, with an incredible array of fine restaurants and world class ballet, symphony, and opera companies. It is also home to the NASA (US space agency)

My Hometown

Galveston is a barrier island off the coast of Texas with a subtropical climate and lush, tropical vegetation everywhere. It was the earliest center of culture and wealth in the State of Texas, having been known in the 1900's as the "Wall Street of the Southwest". It retains one of the finest collections of Victorian architecture, both residential and commercial iron front buildings,in the US. Galveston is one of the best birding locations in the country. The city has a large number of restaurants and art galleries and a large medical school/ hospital complex. It has Moody Gardens, a huge theme park with a 3-D Imax theater, a paddlewheel boat, a rainforest, and much more, as well as a large water slide park, Schlitterbahn. The city contains a state park at which one can view a large variety of plant and bird life and many smaller parks.
There are many Spanish speaking people here, so Spanish speakers could get by with very little English.
