My Surroundings / Locality
Whilst a market town, with all the facilities, we are also very close to some beautiful countryside. The county is know as the 'Squires and Spires County' of England, as it has many large stateley homes and country village churches, often illuminated at night. Northamptonshire's significant role in history over the centuries has resulted in a uniquely rich heritage for residents and visitors to enjoy. Nearby Naseby marks the site of the battle in which Charles I was defeated. It was at Ashby St. Ledgers that Guy Fawkes hatched the famous 'Gun Powder Plot' during the reign of James I. Our county is also the final resting place of Diana, Princess of Wales at Althrop, home of the Spencer family for twenty generations.
My Hometown
Northampton has two theatres, cinemas and many activities locally. Famous in British history as part of the Civil War, in the 1600's when a thriving shoe industry was established, Brands such as Churchs and Trickers shoes are still made here today. There is a fascinating museum on footwear in the town, (free entry). Northampton is around one hour from London by train, with late trains serving, it is possible to enjoy the City, saving money on parking and traffic charges. Also Oxford, Cambridge, Stratford Upon Avon and Warwick (featuring the largest 'active' castle in the UK) are all around an hour away. Milton Keynes is approximately 10 miles away with a large shopping centre, Snow Dome (Xscape), cinemas and theatre. Birmingham is also just an hour away with Imax, Museums and more theatres and music venues, and the NEC UK exhibition centre.
